if you can wait till its been a little more windy than usual

Am I doing something wrong? I have not claimed on my home insurance for 25 years. If my roof leaks I fix it. If a tree fell on my house I would claim but should I claim just because things wear out or just need routine maintenance?

A friend of mine, every year, claims an amount equal to the amount he pays the insurance company, he calls them a necessary evil!!

Someone I knew questioned why I don't have a video camera.
I said I couldn't afford one.
She said she couldn't either but every two years she puts a claim in for one on her home insurance!
I said: So that's why my insurance is so expensive then!

I think her whole lifestyle might have been funded by fraudulent insurance claims.

If your roof is leaking because of damage you will be covered on your policy. If it is because of wear and tear you may not be covered, check your policy carefully.

Knew a guy a few years back, who would claim for damage to his chimney stack following high winds/storm. He would even send off a photo to prove it.

The problem is that he didnt have a chimney on his house. He just took a photo of someone elses and claimed!

During the storms a few years back I lost some of the woodwork around my roof, a couple of ridge tiles and a few slates slipped down.
The insurance looked at it and said that I hadn't been maintaining my roof and so they were not paying out!

So, given that I am on my roof every summer repointing, reslating, clearing gutters, tidying the chimney and aerial wiring, removing unwanted plant growths, etc. I can't see what more I could have been doing to maintain my roof.

So who else does as much on their roof to maintain it each year?

I'm on my roof several times a year. When I'm not tinkering with my solar panel I'm checking the cowls, the pots and flaunching and the ridge tiles. Last weekend I was up a ladder removing weeds and debris from my neighbour's gutters, which was fun.

Other than that I'm just sitting contentedly on the ridge enjoying the views.

flashings split one one side of the dormer, roofer out a temp repair whilst I await a quote to get. Insurance seem happy enough as phoned them up, if below £600 they will just post a check
