Hardly used since being built. I made this for my son using the top quality bits from my previous commuter bike after the frame cracked. Unfortunately, this was just before Covid kicked off so he never really got to use it as intended to ride to school and then college and now has frustratingly grown out of it (I always thought he was going to be a shorty, but I was wrong!)

This frame and forks set are no longer available from planet X but at the time they were well known for producing good quality steel frames that ride nicely at a reasonable price. It has built up into a really good bike that is ready to use for commuting, touring or leisure riding. Comes with lights suitable for being seen when urban commuting. It was supposed to be a cheap parts bin build using parts I already had (apart from the new frame) but ended up costing a bit more than planned once I found I had to fit a new road chainset & Fr. mech, as well as a few other finishing bits/clamps/cables etc.

  • 3 x 9 drivetrain.
  • XT - hubs, hydraulic disc brakes & rear mech.
  • New Sora front mech
  • New Spa triple road chainset
  • Deore shifters
  • Mavic 700c rims with Swiss DT butted stainless spokes

The bike rides really nicely and everything works as new. Gear changes are precise and silky smooth. I cut the steerer tube long so there are 8 x 5mm spacers on there at the moment which leaves plenty of scope for adjusting the bar height. Currently can go down 5mm or up 35mm, if you want me to cut this and remove the extra spacers I'm happy to do this once a sale is agreed. Just so you know, the Planet X paint is lovely and shiny, but does seem to chip easily and as a result the chainstay has chipped and there's perhaps 1 or 2 others I seen while picturing the bike, but nothing horrendous.

Bike is collection only, from Ashton-under-Lyne just to the east of Manchester. Inspection/test rides welcome by arrangement and if you have any questions or want pictures of anything specific please just ask.

T&Cs - Payment is cash on collection. Bike is sold as used/secondhand and is a private sale, so sold as seen, no warranty implied or given.

I know there's not a lot of space, but is there a way of getting mudguards on that? And what's the biggest tyre you can get in there?
