Anyone out there noticed any difference this year..or lately ?
4 star hotel in Turkey, been there before, only stayed in one or two 4 stars that were better (Benidorm was one of the best ive stayed in), been to a few that were nowhere near as good..yet this year theres a marked drop in dress expectations.
Long trousers, shirt, no flipflops, no beachwear has always been a requirement, blimey, this year ive only worn a shirt and trousers once in 12 days, you feel overdressed. Flipflops, shorts and a tshirt is all most wear at evening lunch (buffet). The clientel is 90% scandinavian, we're the only british here AFAIK.

Are the Scandanavians a bit more relaxed ? Is dress sense not so importnat out there now ? Any thoughts ?

How about your best shell suit? Cleaned and pressed for dinner of course. Call me traditional, but for dinner you should smarten up a bit, no caps, shorts or vests.

Ive given up...slobbing it would be too harsh a description, everyone is smartish, shorts and tshirts abound, but its not scruffy.
Gawld knows, my wardrobe isnt that exclusive or extensive, but its was nice once in a while to make an effort, but it surprises me even the women seem so relaxed. The wife has worn her full length dresses twice, those nice light bright flowing things (I think of them as a classical Greek style), but even she looks overdressed.

Anyways, dressed up tonight, going out for dinner, proper waiters n all that. ...best take some extra cash.

When we were in St Lucia guests were asked to smarten up in the evenings and 1 of the restaurants would only let you in if you were smartly dressed, no shorts or flip flops etc... a couple by the pool complained because they were not allowed in because he was wearing shorts. If you go out for a meal at home you would make an effort so why not on holiday, would it really hurt to smarten up for a couple of hours? You don't have to wear a full suit but ditch the shorts once in a while

and dont forget, the star ratings can vary wildly as they dont work on the same system our hotels do.
They mostly describe facilities these day on holiday hotels

Personally I can't see the problem if its a holiday area. Why go around in long trousers being roasted and generally uncomfortable? you are after all on holiday and paying well for it. Perhaps the hotel just gave up? If thats what the customer wants and all that. Maybe the Scandanavians are more relaxed about dress code in my experience the Eastern Europeans are especially in summer time. On warm days here and especially in Poland you won't catch me in long trousers....at any time its just uncomfortable. Having said all that I wouldn't go into a nice restaurant in my shorts tshirt and flip flops.

Rhodes a few years back, 4 star hotel and brits wearing nothing but football shorts in for dinner, one even had bits of sick in his chest hair.

Respect for others is somewhat on the downwards spiral it seems.
