I'm a bit annoyed that the first two in the 'series' or whatever aren't available in English though!

I think this book mst be a bit marmite! I couldn't bear it because of the tedious, plodding prose, and inevitability of the plot.

I think it must be, it's my favourite! I love John Irving to death.

Yes, you can see the ending a mile off, but in the context of the book (not saying any more) I like that.

Mr Nice was quite a yarn but utterly unbelievable in places. Best read as 'based on a true story' IMO.

If he was that deep into dope smuggling and talking to Colombian cartels, how did he manage to stay away from the harder stuff? And how did he avoid the violence that would appear to be pretty much necessary to make money in the drugs trade? I went to seem him do a talk and again he told a good tale, but when I was stood next to him at the bar he behaved like a pr1ck. Sort of put me off him a bit.
