Going out on a limb (nothing ventured, etc) ...

Ask them, since they can't agree a suitable collection time and method, if you can donate it on their behalf to a charity for them to sell / rafflle. Nice publicity for bike firm, and I bet a charity would collect it at a time to suit you!

I don't think he should have to go out of his way to return it... its their mistake, he's been honest and informed them... now its up to them to work out a method of collection that doesn't inconvienence him.

Slightly OT, but this is why I have stopped using some on-line stores, as they use "CityLink" oer similar

WIgg;le for instance only deliver 9 - 5 MOnfay to Friday or a long trip to a depot which may or may not have obeyed my instructions to leave it for my collection.

My last order took some 50 miles on the bike, three visits to their depot to find out tit was being redelkivered despite instructons not to do so foillowed by a "we are returning the delivery as "I had not been at home for delivery"

+1. More than once I was told there had been no-one at home to accept delivery or that the property has been 'carded' when actually I'd been waiting in all day and no card had been left.

I was told by a bloke in the delivery trade that an address away from others on that day's route will often get returned to depot if the person can't be @rsed to make that last trip. Also, in this day and age, where most/many families have 2 adults working, you'd think a sensible company would cater for this...

I've had a courier walk to the door and stick a card though the door without bothering to knock. I was stood in the hall and ran out to see him getting in his van. He was mightly pised that he actually had to open the back of the van a dig out my parcel.

(I'm sure I've heard the drivers get paid a commision/bouns based on number of drops made - irrespective of whether a successful delivery or just a card through the door)

If it's a Dahon Cadenza and you got it from the same place as me keep hold of them, when the first one falls to bits it will save you the hassle of trying to get them to answer the phone.

Me likewise. What bits fell off?

Oh and back on-topic, if you've infromed them on their mistake, it's up to them to arrange collection at a time convenient to you. You should not have to be put out at all by their mistake.

You ought to provide a range of times that they can collect, affording them a reasonable opportunity to rectify the error. If they fail to collect within a reasonable period, you might then be entitled to start charging them for storage costs. Not too sure about that though

Thanks for the replies - I'm glad I'm not being unreasonable here.

The only reason I got the bike from them in the first place was because they were unbelievably cheap - c.30% lower than their competitors. I was prepared for a bit of faff with using a courier but of course was only expecting to cope with one bike...

Ironically this whole problem has occurred because the shop doesn't deliver to work addresses, only home addresses (due to CC security blah blah) with absolutely no exceptions. Of course if they had some flexibility in this then this extra bike would be at work and easy to pick up!

I like the idea of storage charges... probably pushing my luck with that one ;O)

Cheers,
S

Rear wheel spokes all loose, magnet fell off the front on first ride, now bottom joint is falling apart, oh and the seatpost snapped, apart from that i can't fault it.

On a positive note the bell works well and seems to be of reasonable quality..
