No but I would be interested in the results... I'm contemplating the Hope 1 as I don't cycle enough in the dark to justify the Ayups much as I would love a set for myself (Mr Summerdays has them).

Hope 1 is 240 lumens... with AA's. The Ayups are 340 lumens but a bit more money...

Between the two, I'd say it's a personal preference and a 'tiny' amount of space for the ayup battery....

Pro's....

Hope 1 - Take AA's (use hybrids and you are laughing), easy battery changes, and when batteries die, just get a new set, lots of power settings, all in one unit... Excellent UK support. No additional battery pack.

Ay-up - Tiny twin lamps, v bright, very neat, small battery pack, light weight,...excellent Aus Support..

Cons....

Hope 1's..... Heavier than the Ay-up, not as bright (1 LED but cheaper)

Ay-ups - Lack of different light levels, separate battery pack, bit more expensive, batteries die, then specific pack.

Both light systems are excellent, the Ay-ups are tiny, the Hope's aren't exactly big, but at least twice the size of the ay-ups....

I use two Hope 1's - just more flexibility and about the same price as the Ay-Up system...480 on max, and can use alternate flashing.....

It's personal preference... for me was the AA batteries - seen too many issues with 'specific' packs failing - AA's just bin them or upgrade, as these hybrids are very good.... and the unit is in one - so quick off. They would be better if the bracket remained on the bike, but the whole lot comes off, but it only takes about 3 seconds to fit, rather than 1....

That said, I've seen the Ay-ups, and they are so small, you'd not know they were there until switched on. If you have a clutter free bar stem, then no probs fitting the battery.....

Both very good systems - pick what suits you.............. customer service is second to none for both systems....

Ay-ups - Lack of different light levels

New Ay-ups have bright, less bright and flashing as standard.

Fossy & I could possibly meet up and have a 'light off' - we're not far away from eachother IIRC - but I don't know how these things are done (photo wise). Using default light setting doesn't work as the camera compensates?

Assuming you're using a digital camera the best way is to go to manual exposure & get a nice setting for the seemingly brightest of the two lights & settings. Lock that in setting & also lock in your white balance (this is important!). Then take photos of the lights illumination with a standard set of surroundings, you may also want to take a photo of how you are seen.

All this talk of front lights, looks like Fossy needs a rear light...............

Shame you don't have longer legs, you could get more on!!

I've got Ayups for off road use and I think they are great. If anything they are too bright for the road . I've been with a mate of mine with both of us using Ayups on bars and helmets and cars coming in the opposite direction slow down because they can'y work out what is coming! I think they are value for money, but they are overkill if you are not using them off road.

If I had the money I think I'd rather go for the Race Maxx 2 instead over both of those tbh. ;)

If I had the money I would rather have a Lupine Betty X Pro...

You evidently don't do much road commuting, how can you have a light that is too bright for the road?

Betty is 23w.. wadda girl!! ;)

I think that would blind everyone on the road. OK if you're offroading/quiet country lanes at night but in urban areas you dont need anything brighter than a cars headlights imo.
