Hopefully I've just stopped somebody's bike getting nicked

Got back to a mates bike once the d lock was completely mangled and just a few forceful movements from snapping completely (I know because this is what I had to do to free it). I can only guess some good passer by scared the would be thieves off!

If the owner locked his bike like that. It deserves to get stolen.

There are so many online guides teaching you how to lock your bike correctly and the way he did it just throws all logic out the window

It's a great reason to have an old beater for local errands. Doesn't attract attention and if it gets nicked, it's not the end of the world (other than a walk back)

Funny plod didn't notice that someone had nicked the wheels from their car!

Just out of curiosity, if they would have bashed the lock off what would have happened to the metal wire?

I have learnt something today. I didn't realise there was a wrong way to lock your bike. I've just been googling how to do it properly. :okay:

Yes he could have locked it better but no one 'deserves' to get their bike stolen.

Common sense really. When i started cycling on my crappy Apollo MTB to the next town or doing small trips here and there, First thing i did was have a look how people locked their bikes when i was locking mine up. Where as the owner might not of 'deserved' to have his bike stolen, the way he did it was just asking for trouble.

D-lock through the frame and stand, with a cable round the frame, stand and back wheel? I'm struggling to see what's so bad with the locking techniques here.
