Bike packing is just the new term for cyclo touring. Just like Gravel is for CX. More or less.

I have used seat posts bags but now use ortlieb gravel bags. Well made and you can get a pr for around £112 if you shop around. I also use there quick rack. Did the Yorkshire dirtdash recently and one guy had his seat post snap, possibly fatigue or overloaded who knows.

Thumbs up for Tailfin from me - their website has useful diagrams showing the different luggage setups, I also have some Old Man Mountain bits as well, it really depends on whether you are camping or airBnB and whether you are luxury or cave dweller minded, my key advice is - be mindful of the weight, evaluate every item and make sure you are happy with the benefit/weight ratio, it is very easy to add weight to your setup, when everything is going well you often don't notice it but when you are at a low point it can be soul destroying feeling like you're dragging an anchor.

There are some excellent comfortable backpacks available - I have an Osprey Escape 25 which is designed to be worn for both hiking and cycling, I use it for lightweight bulky stuff like clothing, it also has a dedicated space for a hydration bladder and lots of useful pockets. The camping bits - tent, sleeping mat + bag, cooking bits etc all go on the bike.

Remember - watch that weight!

Ortlieb though quite expensive are superb. I particularly like the way they conveniently clip on and off.
Personally I favour their conventional flap model rather than the roll top ones, but to be fair I've not tried the latter, which do have the option of ridiculously overloading with the tops open eg with shopping in dry weather. Their handlebar bag is also good.

I've seen Vaue de from a distance and they seem similar (a copy even) at a somewhat lower price point. Not used their panniers but found their gear of other types to he good

A decent pannier rack is important. Tubus are excellent, but again expensive, especially bling titanium
