Hostel accommodation - Benbecula

Hi,

Can anyone recommend any hostel in the area of Benbecula, The only one i've found so far is closed.
Have found several b&b's and Shellbay campsite.
We are really looking for acheap hostel or bunkhouse.

Any advice much appreciated.

I'm not aware of anywhere on Benbecula - although central it's a bit urban by Western Isles standards and has a significant military presence. A quick search turns up a place called Tighe na Cille - I take it that's the closed one.

There is an excellent Gatliff Trust hostel a few miles to the south on Uist. I would also add that Hebridean B&B is generally excellent.

There's bugger all on benbecula! The gatliff hostels are good places to stay if you are on the outer hebrides - google them. There is one on North Uist I think which is not too far from there.

Two of the four Gatliff trust hostels are on (or linked to) the Uists/Benbecula. I mentioned Howmore on South Uist, there is also a lovely beach side cottage on Berneray. Details on the GHHT website http://www.gatliff.org.uk/

There used to be a third at Claddach Baleshare on North Uist but it closed some years ago. The building has now surrendered to the elements, though I believe the proprietor/manager still runs a self catering & BB business nearby.
