We're going to Majorca later this week and staying in Porto Pollensa and my main ride is normally hampered by the amount of traffic on this route but from March this year, the route has been made traffic free apart from designated shuttle buses so I'm really looking forward to this now!

Thanks for the good wishes but I can't help but recall the last time we were in Majorca two summers ago. We arrived at the hotel around 3pm so not enough time to reassemble my bike and have a ride but there was enough time for a run. And that turned out to be a big mistake. I ran through the narrow defile of the Boquer valley, which I know well, but on the last difficult bit before the gate marking normal underfoot conditions, I caught my foot on a protruding rock and fell forwards using my hands as protection. Both heels of my hands were ripped raw and bleeding profusely. Thereafter, I was in too much pain to apply the brakes on the bike due to the open sores on my hands so cycling was out of the question on such a hilly island. That put an end to more than half my planned rides that year!
