In a previous thread it appeared that cyclechat has roughly a gazillion people with knee issues - how are you all doing?

I'm now about 4 weeks post op from my bilateral release and apparently well ahead of the game regarding recovery. It helps that I am a student who has sod all to do at the moment apart from sleep, physio, recover . I put my recovery down the surgeons great job, good support from the family, being young and healthy and working hard at the exercises I have been given.
I have had no complications or set backs since the operation and even managed to pump out 200watts on the exercise bike for a good 10mins (until the knee pain pushed me off). This means I am now allowed a good 20mins a day of cycling on the turbo trainer - I shall enjoy every second!
I think the biggest factor of all though is luck. I've simply been lucky with my recovery.

So are there any more good news stories regarding all of your knees/other injuries?

If anybody has a long term injury then don't get too depressed over it (very hard I know having been unable to do the sports I love for about a year) and remember there is light at the end of the tunnel - and the very least you can do is try your best.

How much does it cost to Oldham?
No knee problems at all but I do occasionally get tight hams and calves which results in bad back- especially if I don't stretch enough.

Otherwise, tickety-boo!

Permanent puffiness at the backs of my knees and itching as the fluid spreads but I'm ignoring it now.

Hope your recovery continues to go smoothly, monty.

My knees are reminiscent of a 1950's healthy living campaign, slightly chubby. My left one works perfectly, my right one less so. It's mostly ITB related. Tweaking my position on the bike, physio and stretching seem to have it under control for the time being though (fingers crossed).

I have a dodgy knee from an old skiing injury, but fortunately it rarely troubles me when cycling.

Good luck in your recovery Montage, hope it continues well.

I had my first ever knee problem on the way back from April's fnrttc and following smrbth. The right one literally just went suddenly and painfully, as TC1 & TC2 will confirm.

I didnt pay toooo much attention to it as I thought it would clear, but eventually went to the docs and got referred. Best thing I've done in a long time. Diagnosed with "Patella Tendonitis".

I must admit, leading up to the physio, I did get very down in pondering the what if's and my future in cycling, which pretty much is my life, but was very glad once I had the professional check over.

The physio has worked wonders and in reading about how it all came about etc, as I like to know everything, I have completley changed my cycle style. So I now keep at a high cadience rather than to grind.

This has now pretty much cleared up, but I have been passed to another physio, one that understands my needs as a cyclist more, as I now have an issue with the left side of the knee area. This "pain" was in operation from when the knee first went, I just didnt reckognise the seperation of pain till the tendon got better.

It has something to do with hamstring damage back from 2002 & 2006... so it looks like my male ignorance has come back to haunt me. So, am still mending, but feeling very positive and all in all, think it was a great thing that happened as I can now climb hills, well, better than before. I am also feeling fitter, stronger and faster too whats the side effect of spinning.

So, just now down to the new physio and clearing this bit up and happy days!

My left knee creaks like a million creaky floorboards when I walk downstairs, but gives me no pain

Had probs with right knee in past, but all fine at the mo. Don't run as much as I used to, but cycling more and more... doc says strong knees will mitigate against osteo-arthritis in my left knee..

Never had problems with my knees but I've had big problems with the lower left part of my back and my left hip but that's due to Thaiboxing.

Just started Thai training a few months ago after having to leave it alone for about 6 months. Cycling actually helped it get better.

I had my left knee twisted by idiot friend of GF's son about 6 weeks ago. Still a little uncomfortable but not cycling related and still allowing me to ride. Did 22 miles yesterday. Felt good so went round my usual 11 mile route twice  .
I twisted one knee about 25 years ago but can't remember which one  . I hope this latest twisted knee doesn't take as long to mend and be just a distant memory ;) .

I've had 3 ACL repairs (2 x right, 1 left) and 3 right knee arthroscopies. Knees are rather delicate now and un unexpected twist/jar can have me on crutches for a few weeks.

The reason I'm a cyclist with dodgy knees is that they're not up to climbing/mountaineering/ martial arts/ running any longer!

For a bit of variety I also managed to rupture my achilies tendon (more surgery, and broke my arm). Had sugery to my right ear canal for exostosis, left needs doing - that put a stop to canoeing.

Cycling is allright, but it doesn't half lack the adventure of being in the hills or the rush of paddling a big rapid.

They're one of the bits that still works properly!

Have a few ankle issues - which go back to riding up 1 in 3 hills when in my teens/ twenties (against all advice of course , typical male who thought he was invincible).
