My left knee started hurting a while ago on a ride. I didn't ride for a month, then when I rode again it started hurting again, and the day afterwards. TIme to give it a longer rest I think

I'll join the list of people with dodgy knees. My main love, sportswise was for many years judo. One unfortunate session ended up with a very twisted and swollen knee. It didn't seem to heal right and felt, 'wobbly'.

Working in an MRI department I asked if they could have a wee look at my knee. I came out of the scanner and the radiographer said, 'yer knee's f*cked'. I laughed as this radiographer always liked to try and wind me up. Turned out, they were being serious. ACL was totally torn and some meniscal tears as well.

Wanting to get back on the mat I went for the surgery. The ACL part went fine, the meniscus was still causing problems. Two further ops down the line and my knee is as good as it will ever get. I did get back onto the mat, but it was never the same, and I was no longer as good at my signature judo throw as I had previously been (single knee drop seio-nage).

Decided to retire from judo last year and focus on the cycling which seems to be good for my knee. Unfortunately, I can't run for more than a few minutes without the knee getting sore, and hill walking is a no-no.

Mind you, with all my cycle commuting I am far fitter than I have ever been. Wish I had been that fit on the mat!

Left knee is pretty ropey. Torn cruciate and medial ligament playing football and decided to retire rather than having the op.

Just have to avoid any sports that could twist it so cycling is just about ideal :bicycle:

No knee problems, but my left ankle has been injured for over a year, I've had physio but reckon I need to go for a scan.

Knackered right knee (my MRI scan was my avatar for many a year).

Still knackered as I refused surgery, but better and able to function in a knee-ish way ie bend and straighten when required.

Unfortunately I have done my back in though.

Left knee was just about recovered from acute ITB when I went and ruptured the plantar fascia in my right foot and nearly 3 months of hobbling has made it a bit dodgy again. Orthopaedic assessment tomorrow as I may also have ruptured some ligaments around the toes somewhere and it's not getting better.

Still on the bike, just can't drive or walk!

That's cool Ravenbait - can't walk or drive - but still cycling

You won't remember me - as I was mainly hiding in the Racing section of C+ and found the cakestop a bit cliquey for a newby - but I used to read all the posts via the "new posts" button so I have always been an admirer of your work (at least since I joined C+ in about 2004).

Nice to see you back - hope everything's OK.
