Mine came in a long cardboard box. Each is made up of several pieces so the packaging isn't as long as you might think. It will probably stick out of the top of your rucksack by a few inches but you should be fine.

If they are from Wiggle, probably in an HUGE box. Retail they are just cable tied onto a card so depends on where they are coming from really. I've carried a pair of full length guards in a rucksack with them sticking out of the top and the zip tight up to them. I'd advise a bit of string to secure the top somehow as they wobbled a bit. Or if its not far lash them to the toptube, or toptube with an end resting on the bars.

Not sure how the bike shop will deliver them, that's probably down to what boxes they've got handy on the day of despatch, but the guards themselves are in a fairly long (probably 90cm-100cm), thin plastic bag. If the box won't fit in the rucksack, which wouldn't surprise me, I'd take a couple of bungies rather than zip ties, and just strap the box on the outside of the bag.

I thought from the adverts you could fit them in seconds. Best way to carry them home

But he could be going to the PO on a mountain bike and wants them for his road bike

Jim they should come in a slim but long box. If you're not worried about returning them put all the gubbins in your ruckasck and ditch the box.

I'm sure you'll find a way! I've been known to come back from the collection depot with some strange loads on the bike. Have had to wrap multiple tires around my neck/torso before, and just today I came home with 2 large amazon boxes, a saddle and a seat post - Only two of which would fit into the bag on my back!
