How are we all going to keep 'commuter' fit.

What's yours?

I'm going to drink beer and eat croissants, laze around in bed and waste time on the internet, and then get back on my bike in January and ride to work (where I will eat croissants and waste time on the internet. Drinking beer in the office isn't really accepted where I work, sadly)

This week I shall be mostly attempting the Strava Festive 500. After that, hopefully I'll get a few commutes in mixed with weekend rides and turbo sessions. That's the plan anyway.

Just done a quick 30km (<1 hour) after a 2 week layoff due to ill health/ 14 hour shifts and boy am I in pain. Couldn't breathe after first 20 mins and head spinning by the end. Last time I take so long from the bike even if it is only 20 mins on the turbo before dinner. Going to have to buckle down over xmas if I am going to double over Holme Moss on NYD with Steve

It is a nice ride down to Betws if you can do the miles and know the route. Some lovely hills involved. The roads are relatively wide from Llanwrst to Betws so you wont have much problems with traffic. Plus there is a lot of cyclists around there.
If you didnt want too many hills and a traffic free route, then you have the National cycle route 5 either towards Rhyl or towards Llanfairfechan.

Alternatively you could do a route with either Gavroche (lives in Conwy) or me. Gavy would have a better knowledge of that immediate area.

Its up to you but any route is nice in the area.

Cheers Matthew I will have a look at those.

Out for a meal this evening which is 8 miles away so we're driving there and taxi-ing it home- I've offered to pick up the car tomorrow on my bike but am busy planning how to make it an oversized loop- my muscles are crying out for it after too many days sitting on the sofa grazing!

Fun time over now, Im gearing up for a Saturday and a New years day ride to burn off the food and drink I have had over the last number of days and be fit and ready for the big push at work next Wednesday. Commuting bike no2 needs a serious clean and lube plus new brake pads and wheels truing so I am on with that tomorrow. So, come on boys and girls off the sofa and stop vegetating, its time to get your bike checked over ready for your next ride.

I pick up my turbo on Saturday. http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/..._productId_895535_langId_-1_categoryId_229901

The extra 20% online discount (took it well under 1/2 price) swung me. I was going to go for a magnetic one, but this ' Elite SuperCrono Power Fluid Cycle Trainer' seemed a bargain at 150 quid. Hope it's a s good as the reviews!

I was looking here

for a replacement for mine but in the end didn't have the spare funds.

I've spent the last week looking at various models, and reading reviews. I started off knowing absolutely nothing about Turbo Trainers, but I finally decided that I needed a more expensive oil filled version as I'll be using it with the Missus in bed, and the cheaper ones are a fair bit noisier.

Ermmm, I'll not actually be using it with the Missus in bed....she'll be in bed, I'll be downstairs!
