How are we all going to keep 'commuter' fit.

Mmm, I think I will be a mess by the time I start commuting again.

I had an extra week and 2 days off before Christmas due to Paternity Leave, and have the three days off between Boxing Day and New Year's day too. And, what with being a Father for the first time, I've not been grabbing opportunities to get out on my bike either.

On the positive side, I went out on my bike just before Christmas Day, and heading up the usual hill through the park, legs and lungs working well, and 20 mile/h reached and maintained, which is a good yardstick for my strength and fitness.
Only to find on the way home that I had been benefiting from a tail wind.

I've spent the last week looking at various models, and reading reviews. I started off knowing absolutely nothing about Turbo Trainers, but I finally decided that I needed a more expensive oil filled version as I'll be using it with the Missus in bed, and the cheaper ones are a fair bit noisier.

Ermmm, I'll not actually be using it with the Missus in bed....she'll be in bed, I'll be downstairs!

I'm out in the shed when on mine, the problem at the moment is finding the time, I had time this afternoon but ended up asleep on the sofa:wacko:

I know what you mean. I've quickly become used to my daily naps on the sofa......or in the bath. I don't know how I'll cope on the 7th when I'll be expected to do a full days work without my nappi-nap-nap time.

I'm away at family at the moment without a bike to hand, so I went for a run. I'm struggling to think when I last ran but it must be over 3 years ago. Did about 6k in about 30 mins and felt pretty good. Must be a lot fitter than when I last ran.

Might try and do a bit more running to mix things up a bit.

Keeping fit fine,on today's commute plenty of cyclists on the return.
Seem to be getting faster now,I suspect the new wheels have something to do with that,oh and also removal of the seized up brake.

I managed both today, a short cat nap on the sofa and then an hour on the turbo at level 3, cleared some of the cobwebs out, I haven't used the bike since Sunday and I'm getting itchy feet.

How have I kept my fitness. Well, I had dairy free pizza and cheesecake.
It was from Holland and Barratt so it must be "healthy" right?

I've lost it completely, having been off work all December but for 2 days - making up for it though by booking the full set of Jane Tomlinson Yorkshire 10K Run for All's, plus the Walk for All "Gauntlet" set of Lakes, Peaks & Dales 22, 25 & 26 mile hill walks for next summer. I think Ben Nevis is also on my itinerary.

My exercise for today was to buy some new running shoes
My exercise for tonight will be to gently wear them in by walking to the pub and the curry house (friend's birthday)

When the 2nd of January (1st is never a good day to start anything so pointless setting up for instant fail) arrives, it's minimum 50% raw vegan and a gentle start with a gradual but definite ramping up of activity

In between here and there
I rode 15 miles on Sunday and commuted yesterday and today. My legs feel like a proper Friday afternoon. Wouldn't fancy the full two weeks of no bike riding coupled with over indulgence, I felt pretty crappy this afternoon!!

Whoops. That is exactly how I fecked my hamstring on my left leg, and that was at half our age. Went out for a run, felt great, got home, woke up next day, had to shuffle on my ass down the stairs, couldn't walk. Lots of physio.

Be careful. Don't do too much because the CV system finds it easy.

How odd - I fecked my hamstring up in my right leg running about 10 years ago (got physio at the time too). I was really pushing it at the time going for a 10k pb and stupidly continued going even after i could feel pain. It's why I shy away from running these days. The hamstring has never been perfect since.

Got stiff quads today and a tight tummy.

Looks like its no cycling until sunday as well - weather forecast is fiddle tomorrow:cursing: Think it's gonna be a go on my mates turbo trainer for an hour or so tomorrow morning.

I went for a quick 7 or 8 mile blast today into town. Came back loaded up with 14!!! litres of juice.....which makes it a bit of a challenge carrying the trike over those stupid gates they have on cycle paths.

And yes, it was noticeable that I haven't ridden in over 2 weeks. I must get a few turbo sessions in before Monday.

My legs are telling me they have been working really hard over the past three days but my heart rate monitor and average speed says otherwise:sad:
