And so the commuting season has come to a close. I've been battling the man flu/norovirus/chesty cough/throbbing headachefor the last 10 days, so I've had a few sick days, and the rest I had to resort to the motorbike. That means 3 weeks without my daily 24 mile ride. That's plenty long enough to fall out of shape, so now I'm better I've committed to going for a long ride at least every 3rd day. The upside to being poorly is that I've lost 1/2 a stone (11 6 now!)![]()
My keep fit plan is this. I'm picking up a Scott Sub40 on Monday. I figure that I'll use it when the snow's too deep for the trike, and also it will be better suited for using with a turbo trainer (I'm looking on ebay right now for one.) So come Jan 7th (which will be here before we know it) I should be ready.
So that's my plan. What's yours?
I bought a fantastic turbo in the autumn, very "road realistic" and the best I could find in my price point, remote control, magneto drive and output by watts not just revs (very important for realistic riding).
However, I've not had enough reason to use it more than 3 times over the winter (and one of those was a test ride). Its hung on the wall of the workshop gleaming at me every day but, frankly, I've found nothing replaces the feel of a real ride.
You'll get your legs back within three rides to work and a turbo will likely end up underused.
If you are unconvinced, mines probably for sale (Trax Flow circa £150)
