How do I find a HD for my new (old) HP laptop?

I just bought a HP Compaq nc6220 laptop, without HD, off ebay, thinking the HD I took out of my old nx6325 would slot straight in. It doesn't. Boo hoo. Now I need to find an old HD on ebay, but I don't know what to specify, or how to search. I've fitted HD's in desktops many times, but it seems laptops are a bit trickier. I had thought pretty much any two and a half inch laptop HD would fit, but now I'm stumped. Anyone know the answer? Many thanks.

Yes. Physically, any laptop drive should fit. Whether or not the BIOS detects it is another matter. Old laptops tend not to detect new, higher capacity drives.

What drives that laptop can support, I dont know I'm afraid.

Edit: Any laptop drive should fit, providing its the same interface (SATA or IDE) as the laptop

its not the HDD thats the problem. HP laptops use a standard 2 1/2 inch HDD, but with an extender that mounts over the IDE pins on the HDD. That's the bit you need, and unfortunately, unless you know someone who's scrapping an HP laptop, they're like hen's teeth.
