I have offered to flatten my inlaws pc and back up their documents before reinstalling to speed things up for them. No problem as I've done this before. However my father in law has saved emails he wants to keep and I am wondering waht is the best way to preserve these?

Any advice would be welcome.

When I was on AOL there was a descrete hidden folder with all the emails saved in it, it took me a long time to find it. I don't know if outlook does the same.
However, having got it wrong once and lost my emails I transfered to saving online.

If that option is available then you could do that. They may already be saved online, one way to check is to open his account on another computer and see if he can still retrieve the emails. If he can then they are saved online.

Failing that, if there are not too many, he could send them back to himself but not retrieve them until after the pc is up an running again.

I've not used outlook express in years but iirc there is export folder option which saves all the mails in a folder to a .msi or something of that ilk.

Just copy Inbox.dbx to a CD and then copy them back afterwards.
