Agreed, the more that drivers realise they may be being filmed the better.
Better how?
Better because it means the level of distrust and antagonism between drivers and those sneaky, secret filming, trouble causing cyclists increases, or better because it shows that arguing and being abusive in the street is the norm and something we should all aspire to?

Better because the consequences of bad, aggressive behaviour on the roads is often nothing. The more people who see someone lose their job because they behaved recklessly on the roads the better. Bring it on. Make it a half-hour tv programme shown every weekday.

It's well known that people try to lie & blame their victim to try and get out of responsibility when they screw up. For this reason dash cams are becoming more & more popular for evidence/documentation purposes if the worse should happen etc... Yes, cyclists have stolen the initiative on this one but it's happening more & more all over the place. What you're thinking about are the big youtube clips users, but these are posted by a small number of camera users. Most of the cyclists & drivers with cameras I know have never posted any videos on-line in a public manner.

EDIT: see strikethrough

There was something on TV last night about a police force in the states issuing their officers with cameras for the past year . Complaints about the police had dropped by over 80% ( I'm sure they said 88% )

Indeed. I've been using a bikecam for several years, and I think that I've posted exactly one clip of bad driving in all that time (and that was someone who endangered himself and other people rather than me).

Had a close pass recently on wet country lane and I caught up with the driver in a traffic queue. Smiling I mimed winding the window down and said good evening.
" Could you find it in your heart..." She immediately nodded and smiled back.. " to give a poor cyclist a bit more room when overtaking please?" I asked.
She apologised and assured me she would do so in future. We smiled again and I carried on safely. A friendly approach may have made life better for other riders I hope.
