How do you secure your light from thieves?

Hmm.

My front light has gone missing, along with the new battery pack.

It's was one of those LED jobs that attaches via a rubber ring, and the cables for it and the battery pack were wrapped around the brake cable and top tube, so taking it off would be reasonably time consuming, and the bike is in a busy area. Nonetheless it's gone.

Before I get a new one, can I ask how you secure such a thing? I don't want the wires flapping about and wrapping them around the brake cable prevented this, but it's tedious to do every time you leave the bike. I had though that perhaps if I put some cable ties here and there it would make it annoyingly difficult to take, but then thieves might not be so put off.

Any ideas much appreciated.

I never leave mine on the bike. Always take it with me. And for commuting I use an Exposure joystick, so no separate battery to worry about.

I put mine in my pocket and take them with me. Just like I do with my GPS. I have been known to take my saddle in some places where my bike has been left (not so much now that I know how to drive a car and don't have to leave my bike in strange places)

On my regular winter commute bike the front and rear lights are bolted on (B&M IQ Cyo front, Toplight on the rear rack).

If I'm riding something with lights that can be removed then I just have to take them off (I definitely don't want someone to nick my Vision II).

Cheapo ones stay on. Expensive lights come with me.

Front light - expensive - comes with me, or at work I hide it in the panniers. Back lights are cheaper, I leave them on when at work because the bike park is quite secure, if in town take them off.
Garmin comes always with me.

Front lights are fitted on to a bar extender with a quick release fitting. I remove the bar extender complete with the lights attached.
