We all know it's in our futures and when it arrives, if you have the choice, how do you want it to come a-knocking? Me, I want to die at 92 of an burst aortic aneurysm that I don't know I've got as I am dancing a jig in the stadium following Steven Gerard's grandson lifting Liverpool's 25th European cup. But that's just me.

I'm hoping that at the age of 95 I'm shot by a jealous husband.

I¨m not in a hurry, but I´m not scared of dying - as long as it´s quick and pain-free.

Maybe after a long ride, or skiing holiday, having showered and eaten a good meal, with a few large cognacs to go with the coffee.

That´ll do me, but not quite yet.

I'd like to do a Beryl Burton, only be 25 years older when it happened (about 84).

(Namely - appear to be fit and in good health, be out on my bike and suddenly feel unwell, dismount and die at the side of the road.)

Most of my family would be old or dead by then, I'd have had another 30 years of good cycling and I reckon I'd probably be past my best!

I don't fancy 5-10 years of failing health but I reckon that I might be able to get into my early 80s in good condition (many of my family have lived well into their 80s, 90s or even 100s).

Beryl Burton

I was born in Woodlesford, near Leeds, where Beryl lived in a new estate at the end of our street [well it was new in 1966!]

She was really friendly off her bike but very focussed on it... always tazzing about on her bike, [no ] and Woodlesford is built on the side of a steep hill so no wonder she did so well- everywhere else must have been a doddle!

Sorry- back to dying.

I dont care how I die... I just don't wanna be there when it happens

Hmmmm the less painful the better, and in a way that wont leave everybody mourning too much....but this isn't something I have thought through just yet

...phew, that was a close one!

Ideally, I'd go in my sleep. Just not wake up one morning. But not before my wife as I hate the thought of leaving her alone.
