...if you need more than what you're allowed to get from out of the cash machine?

Do you need to write a cheque payable to 'cash' and submit it over the counter?

Thanks

I think it's taking passport to the counter- best to call the branch you visit etc and letting them know.

Each one is different but allow some time for it if it's a large figure. I think £1k is usually ok but best to check with the bank.

That's what I used to do.

Depending on the amount I have also visited the cashpoint on consecutive days until the required amount was obtained.
It maybe worth using your card over the counter in your branch. Take some ID in case it is needed.

Or, faced with what we had when trying to rent a property in a new town on a weekend trip; 1.5 months' rent as a deposit in cash = all the cash cards in the house, max them all out. Can withdraw daily over a few days but I'd warn your bank in case they think the card's been stolen.

I just walk in with my bank card and driving license. £1,300 limit on the day, otherwise I have to request the cash. Usually 24 hours.

If time allows, spreading it over a few days is usually the easy option. I generally avoid doing any business over the counter if I can - the staff always look at you like you've got poo on your shoe if you want to anything other than the bog standard.

Don't carry cash, use a banker's draft, which is as good as cash for your buyer.
unless your seller wants to put it in a bank then it takes 5 days to clear still - Halifax - September 2011 we had issues with bankers drafts when paying the builder for the loft conversion.

Do you use internet banking? If so could you pay your payee directly using their sort code and account number?
