Surprised this has not cropped-up today.
The FF house is much happier than it was this time last year. Daughter #2 woke us at 0800 (we're on holiday, OK!) to tell us that she's been accepted for her first choice Uni.
It's been a hard year for her, we are immensely proud of her efforts.

If there are those out there who's kids/relatives/friends did not get what they hoped for tell them not to give-up. There's always a second chance, another path to take, a plan B that works, don't ever give up on your dream.

Bugger .... for the next year that's 2 kids at Uni to feed! Oh well, 2 down, only 1 to go.

The girls celebrated by going shopping, me and the Whippet celebrated at the pub.

Hmm reaction to results (AS), better than expected since it was mostly C's (managed an A on physical geography) and I thought we would get misery for that. So some papers are to be retaken, human geography, and a French one. I don't mind what they are, it's more the reaction I was dreading. History was one good paper and one bad paper, but it seems the worst ones turned out fine, and it was the ones that seemed ok at the time seem to have the lower grades. And waiting for the appearance on TV apparently!

Okish, son didn't quite get what he needed for first choice, but has for his second. He's not too bothered but is now wondering if he should send the hoodie the first choice place has already sent him back.
He may be ok, but I'm having to come to terms with my wallet being empty for the duration.

In between here and there
AS exams for my eldest daughter All B's and 1 A in Chemistry, Biology, Maths, Fine Art and Critical Thinking. She had/has bitten off more than she could chew and up until January was doing further Maths as well as that lot plus DoE award. For the amount of hours she spent on homework and revising I am bit disappointed in the B's...... Not really but she spent most of this year with her head in a book or doing Art coursework

Well done all. Nothing in education is wasted and results are only one step on the path to success. It's hard to realise that sometimes.
I did an HND at South Bank Polytechnic and I did pretty good from there. Not getting into Oxford or Cambridge or your first choice is not a death sentence, sometimes it can be a blessing in disguise.

Cheers to all.

Up at 05:00 to be in for 06:30 to watch over the phone system, 8045 calls so far (depending on how you count) and hitting our targets of beating last year. All good, I'll get paid for another year. Here until 7pm and then do it all again tomorrow before the Fridays ride.

... or doing Art coursework
Art coursework is really underestimated. It's time consuming and very difficult.
I have to say that I (as a 'Science' person) used to think that Art was a soft-touch ... it really isn't. Both of my girls did Art and the eldest went on to do an Art Foundation at Brookes and now is about to start her final year of Graphic Design at Falmouth. She works her socks-off, long hours and is very committed - holiday internships as well as project work. It's not an easy choice I must say.

We run an in house contact centre for Clearing (150 odd staff across three levels of support), I'm on the staff side watching the technology and making sure it is fixed on the fly if we get problems. Probably my 16th year of Clearing. We used to be Thames Poly, although before I joined :-)
