G.C.S.E's and A Levels mean nothing. I've lied on my CV for the last 10 years no one has checked them, B in Maths yeah right, I can't even count to B!
A levels matter, until you've got your degree. The degree counts until you've got your first job. Then it's down to job experience and how you blag your way through interviews

A guy I know, currently writing up his PhD, posted this on FB earlier today:

I didn't get the A-level results I wanted. Results day was terrible for me. But they became meaningless once I'd started to do well at uni, and now I'm finishing the highest qualification you can do.

So, A Levels are only the be all and end all for the week you get them. If you haven't done as well as you hoped the world will keep turning and you will still have plenty of chances to succeed.

We had a very good day - daughter was fearing AAB which would have made her first choice (history at Exeter) problematic

Surpassed all expectations with A* A* A!

She's not stopped grinning all day and now has two unbelievably proud parents
Exeter is a great place to go to Uni (It's my home town), she'll have a ball! Congrats.

No offence, but this is the type of statement I hate.

Results matter slightly, but are not the end of the road. I didn't do well at school, hated it as a matter of fact, but I got a job, got my head down and I've been here for 10 years and have managed to buy a house and live a decent life with plenty of holidays thus far. It depends on what pressure you're put under to actually do what you want to do. A levels don't matter if you aren't sure what you want to do in terms of employment. A degree only matters now a days if you want to go into a certain field that needs a degree (not one of these degrees that mean nothing)

Edit; I re-read your post and got the totally wrong end of the stick! DOH! I agree with you. (I only did A-Levels and didn't go to uni!)

TLH steers of lot of her brighter students to read history at that school. Good choice and well done her for clearing the bar.
