I was allowed to cycle on the roads once I'd passed my cycling proficiency test. Promptly cycled 45 miles to Brighton and 45 back (singlespeed, 20" wheels, rod brakes) and was banned from the bike for a week.

I was 9, I'm now 59!

Might have ignored the road ban once or twice before the test. Got to practice haven't you?

So at least 51 years of real cycling.

The older I get, the faster I used to be ...
Must be getting on for 52+ years.Very seriously in my early teens, club member, lapsing somewhat late teens/20s, marriage, children, back into cycling - fixed wheel bike through late 20s -30s, geared road bike in my 40s, increased since my 50s, joined club again and now cycling more than ever in my 60s.

Only since last October  Prior to that, I did Millport about 6 years ago, a trip to town a couple of times 8 years ago, and that's it. Ah, about 15 years ago I lost 10 Kilos on an exercise bike.

Barnet,
I started cycling as a kid when I was about 7. I used to cycle to my primary school, and then to my secondary school. I left school in 1974 and continued cycling to work. I am now 54 and still going.

I bought my first proper mtb at the age of 14, having saved up my paper round money. I'm still hooked, 20 years later.

Had a few bikes when I was little, but bought my first bike [Dawes Lightning] in February 1982 which I did the 67 mile Cyclone on last year.

Always on a bike as a kid (thanks to my parents for letting me out). Got my first 'racer' at 13, so out even more. Crashed that into the back of a car, which led to then running a MTB up to getting inspiration from the likes of Induraine, Romminger, Abdujaparov (sp?) and went back to a road bike. Been cycling on and off ever since.., with even more in the last 5 years or so for health and sanity.
