11 bikes?
And there's me thinking I had too many owning 3! Having said that, if the mrs gave me more garage space I'd easily add a couple more. ^_^

I'd say that 3 is the bare minimum. 4 or 5 is ideal but 11 is taking the proverbial

Six is too many!

Purely because I currently want five:

1. Road Bike (fair weather bike)
2. Cyclocross (wet weather bike)
3. MTB
4. Fixie (because I want one)
5. Cheap Tesco bike that I don't mind using for a run to the shops/pub, so that if it's nicked I won't feel like crying!

I only have two:

  1. 90's Holdsworth road bike, needs a lot of TLC but still runs
  2. EBC Touring bike, this is my everyday, do-it-all bike at the moment
I long to get a MTB but seriously there is nowhere within 30 miles to ride one off-road, aside from Delamere Forest.

I actually used to have 14, but it was getting beyond a joke!!! The one I really regret getting rid of was my first proper 'racer' an ALAN alloy frame with glued lugs with a Campag Croce du Aune gruppo throughout, the delta brakes I especially liked. I very recently sold my fully restored Raleigh Chopper, got more for that than the ALAN! Already looking at building a new TT bike... Watch this space!

I got 4 but only ride 2 at the moment. The other two are in a right state, one can probably be made workable with a really good clean. The other is very much broken, I suspect a cracked frame (took a drop that was a little too big and the impact broke quite a few things).
I'll probably scrap the broken one, sell the other one and then I've got an MTB on the mind and perhaps a bent.. Will of course upgrade my road bike.

Three seems about right to me. Spesh Hardrock Sport with Suspension locked and slick is Ok as a commute for dirty winter days. Cube Peloton currently on turbo since begining of December and the best bike my Ridley Excalibur Flandrien which does come out at weekends even at this time of the year because not to ride it would be just criminal.
