How many pairs of shoes?

I stopped counting a while ago, but I will admit to having summer shoes and winter shoes and I have to swap them out twice a year in order to fit them in my wardrobe. A low estimate is probably about 40 pairs - It's a bit shameful really!

P.S. for god's sake no one ask about handbags......

Today, unpacking my life having had the removal truck deliver my stuff from Edinburgh to Southsea. An audit of my shoes had struck me as necessary as I was a bit surprised at just how many I seem to have collected over the years and now need new homes in new cupboards/garage etc.

2 pair of hill walking boots (goretex and leather )
I pair of walking shoes
1 pair of sailing wellies
1 pair of dinghy sailing shoes
2 pair of sailing deck shoes
4 pairs of cycling shoes (3 x Look, 1 x SPD)
1 pair of canvas beach shoes.
2 pair of running shoes
1 pair of 'trainers'
3 pair of suede shoes
4 pairs of office black shoes
2 pairs of brown smart shoes
1 pair of ice skates
1 pair of ski boots
3 pair of flip flops
2 pairs of slippers
3 pairs of work shoes - I no longer wear these, but have weird sentimental value

There are not many of these I don't wear. I am going to get rid of a few, probably 2-3 pairs.

1 pair Shimano SPD shoes.
1 pair black shoes for formal wear.
1 pair work boots.
1 pair Cotton Traders walking shoes which are wearing out so only get worn for doing the garden.
1 pair of sandals.
1 pair of all leather walking boots.
1 pair of Fleecy tent slippers which are very warm so only get worn in the winter.

For years I only had three pairs of shoes - one boots, one trainers and one shoes, in the summer I swapped the boots for canvas shoes.
I don't quite know what happened but currently I have
2 pairs of canvas pumps,
3 pairs of trainers,
1 pair of walking shoes
1 pair of slip on shoes for work
1 pair of baseball boots (I actually do have two but my eldest daughter seems to have taken possession of one pair)
2 pairs of summer wedges
2 pairs of boots
2 pairs of red high heels
1 pair of posh black high heels
1 pair of casual black high heels
and a pair of slippers.
