Never been married but for some crazy reason women seem to want/wanted to marry me, me and the woman have been together nearly 20 years and 2 kids, deep down she would like to get married but I've always been aganist getting married from a young age growing up in Dublin, something to do with the catholic church and my atheist views, long story for another time and she has never really tried to force the issue of marraige...for me I don't need a ceremony to prove my love or commitment to me woman,
at times its been tough, very tough especially concerning money but we've never split up, not even for 1 minute neither of us has ever even walk out and returned later...

Hear, hear!

Don't see the point in getting married, either. Fair play to those that do and those that believe in it, but to marry to make someone happy or to prove your love/commitment to them or to keep the in-laws happy or whatever other reason is ridiculous. If you love someone and want to spend the rest of your lives together, then go for it, yet nothing is certain. So why complicate it?

As you've said, a piece of paper and a title doesn't make for anything. I'm sure my OH would like to be married, also to have kids, but unless the world becomes a happier and safer place, we'll stay childless...and most likely together, but unmarried

I love my missus to bits, even after being together for 20+ years, although.......

About 12 years ago friends of ours went through a crisis when he'd had an affair . After much angst and heartache, his wife agreed to take him back.

A few weeks later when I'd had way too much to drink I asked Mrs Slowwww:-
Me: "If I did that, would you have me back?"
Mrs S: "It's irrelevant"
Me, rather indignantly: "What, you think I couldn't get another woman?"
Mrs S: "No, it's irrelevant because you'd be dead!!"

Oh well, at least I know!!

Fortunately I get to join the club of those who got it right the first time.

My wife and I have been together almost 60% of my life. Married for 24 of those years, I think; I have trouble remembering dates. This is why we make such a good team: I forget, she remembers for both of us.

Re infidelity, I'm surprised that anyone could take anyone back after it. I couldn't. To me, it runs to the heart of a relationship. It's trust that's the issue, not sex. Being 'faithful' has taken on the meaning of not shagging about but it's deeper than that, it is about faith. But then, I reckon the relationship must be terminal long before pants get dropped.

Of course, each to their own etc. The above is only my (highly personal) take on it.

Hmmm, to be perhaps a tad too serious, I don't think I like either first or current. Smacks of chattelism (to invent a word) to me and enforces gender/power roles. And it's just wanky innit? To mess with your partner like that. Overly serious mode off.
