When I started work in 1968 there was one guy in a workforce of about 50 who was divorced. He was regarded as a bit of a curio by everyone else as divorce among the lower orders was not very common back then, women in the main having to put up with long dead relationships purely for financial reasons. Times have changed now, women have much greater financial independence and the state is more supportive of single parent families so it is much easier for them to say enough is enough when love dies. I believe around 80% of breakups are instigated by the female partner.
I have never been divorced, but split up with a very long-term girlfriend, which was quite long drawn-out, quite friendly really, and involved money and property (like who got the Linn Sondek) but was never acrimonious. We had no kids though, and I've seen other friends' non-married relationships (straight and gay) break up really badly.
Who got it then?

Still looking forward to my first divorce, but I'll need to get married first. I work on the principle that if any woman wants to marry me then she must have a screw loose and is therefore not suitable marriage material. Oh, and no; I don't bat for the other team (had a colonoscopy once; jeeeeezzzzzus ) . Have enjoyed various relationships with the fairer sex in the past but for one reason or another they haven't worked out; methinks I am too much of a free spirit!

Never been divorced and hope I never am. Been married for 30 years. I think we are lucky that we get on very well, although there have been times when we have got on each others' nerves. I still actually fancy her, even though she is 33 years older than when we first started dating.

Sorry, I read that as she was 33 years older than you and that you'd been married 30 years!

Fortunately I was wrong but not before an unhealthy image appeared in my mind.

Been out all day with my best mate, watched a couple of bands, stood on Steep Hill in Lincoln and applauded the riders climbing the cobbles, had a nice lunch and a couple of drinks, we have just sat and laughed and drank our way through The Inbetweeners Do Australia.

I forgot to mention, my best mate is the girl I married when I was 18 which was 41 years ago.

No never. Nobody would have me in the first place!

Spent most of my life with achroniclack of confidence, a lot better now but have also come to love the freedom as I sit looking out of a hostel window overlooking the sea after taking yet another random weekend cycle trip. Sure beats an evening at home watching Coronation St!

Never divorced, never married. One relationship-going-pear-shaped, involving the division of family assets and negotiating shared parenting arrangements.

I don't feel any particluar need to get into another relationship, although if the right one came along I wouldn't go so far as to object on principle. I've never particularly felt the need to get hitched, so don't really imagine that happening - although again, that isn't on grounds of principle or because I find it objectionable (just a bit unnecessary) and if there were a particular reason (e.g. visas, legal stuff, happening to be in a relationship with someone to whom it was important) to do it then I guess I might.
