Curiosity aroused from the average road speed thread, how much elevation gain/loss do you have on your regular rides?

Devon is fairly hilly as we know. My usual post work loop is 900ft of elevation gain over 16 miles.. but I've no idea whether this is average or greater / lower than average etc..

Today was circa 3500ft over 40 miles. I do live on the edge of the Peak District though  .

Commute 20 miles or so each day with about 1200 feet of climbing in total. Despite all the practice I think I'm the second worst climber on this or any other fourm.

I confess to bottling it on sunday when I went over Beacon hill near Loughborough coming down the longer slope with the 8% stretch then deciding to go the long way home via Loughborough rather than take the same route back.
My excuse is that would be boring and what do you expect of someone who was just going to look at the flowers in the woods (that was last year, I had to nip out to London before I could stitch that days photos into a panorama)

my homeward trip drops from 25m above sea level, to 10m above sea level and then rises to 41m above sea level. Being a tough guy I don't make a fuss about it.

On the west edge of Shropshire we have a choice - west or south for hills, east or north for the plain. The usual Sunday run is 20 miles, 1000 feet of ascent and several pints of Station Bitter at the Cross Keys in Selattyn.

You cant really get away from climbing here; its a good job I like it. What I describe as a flat or slightly undulating ride has around 1200ft but most of my rides are twice that. According to Garmin TC I climbed 15,144 ft in 225 miles last week and another 4892 ft on two rides yesterday.

Looking at my records to see what my total annual climbed:-

2009 - 255854'
2010 - 339951'
2011 to date - 108882'

Looking at the middle of last year, for three months I was doing over 40000'+

My hillyist ride was nudging 10000' last year

Already this month, I've done 31693'

The run of the mill rides are usually 2000' to 3000'

My stats say on average, I climb 1,000 feet every 13.8 miles. It's quite hilly round here though, and my 7 mile homeward commute is anywhere between 700 and 1,200 feet depending on the way I go.

As much as I can without having a few fixed routes, varied routes means I don't get keyed into a single route. For me this works out to be around 900ft in 25miles, can do more but route options are much lower.

It's very hilly round here apart from a few busy A-roads so virtually all of my rides are hill-fests. Here are a few route profiles chosen at random, not because they are extra hilly ...

But here's the profile of a ride we did recently. We specifically chose the route for its long flat middle section - our 'flattish seaside century' ... (Units flipped to imperial for that one. 'Flattish seaside 163 km' didn't have quite the same ring to it! ;))
