Just thinking, if you didn't work how much money would you save?

Things like fuel, car, clothes, lunches...

I'd imagine it would be a substantial amount over a year!

I'd be loaded. I would have nothing to spend all my hard earned on.

Don't forget the increased heating bills at home. I expect you make Mrs Noodley turn the heating off when you are not there

Fair point

As I make my own lunch I would still have the same expense... except I could raid the cupboards more!!!

And then what would I do with my time instead .. I could surf the internet reading forums and discovering what good kit I could buy for my bike.... etc... and there would be more time to go around the shops... no - I think I will stick with working.

And I would loose my bike mileage allowence too. No it gets worse the more I think about it..

I'd be so worse off not working...
The car costs me approx £2 a week to get to work...i only drive in 1 day a week.
Packup cant really count...i'd eat at home anyway.
Maybe £3 a week for the vending machine.

I spend bugger all me... £5 a week for work.

Mind, if you didnt work, you'd save a fortune every time someone leaves, gets married or dies
Every now and then the whiprounds seem to empty my pockets

Not working, and taking my time about things, and eating at home rather than eating out, dropped my outgoings by a thousand pounds a month.

I have had to buy my own shirts and trousers and outdoor clothing since one company "released" me. Costs me a fortune. (you would know that wasn't true if you saw me )

I was surprised how much money I can save, by

having the time to think about how to save money
not eating out
not wasting food
not buying things because I have "been working hard, and deserve it"
saving wear and tear on clothes, shoes etc
not needing "smart" clothes for work
no impulse buys, because I have the time to think about what I really need
having the time to repair and/or mend things, and look after things
not buying people presents (and not minding when people do not buy me presents)

also as other people have said, not buying expensive sandwiches etc at work, not contributing to whiprounds, etc.

Especially when travelling by train, taking a flask of coffee.

These may sound small items, but like Dellzegg above they do add up.

I cannae save anything!

The thread was prompted by a discussion I had with Mrs Noodley the other day - only a few years ago I was earning nothing, no income at all - I had my own business and all money went back into it. Then I was a student and worked in a minimum wage job when not at lectures. Now I earn quite a good salary in comparison.

I do not appear to be any better off at the end of the month
