When asking about a quote, always say 'fully comp'. If you ask for TPFT first then fully comp it ramps up your premium because the insurance company prefers people who ask for fully comp. Putting your Mum & Dad on is a great idea.
Have a look at quotes by going via somewhere like topcashback or similar. I got £45 back off my husbands insurance premiums. Probably had a couple of grand back over the last 2 and a bit years so its worth going through. Just about to get £74 back on my household cover.

Good luck and keep getting quotes.

Just make sure that you get fully comp. When I first got my car and motorbike I went tpft to save money, however after seeing the devastating effects having only tpft can cause I wouldn't get anything other than fully comp. Imo, third party is a pointless option and shouldn't be offered.

Devastating to who?
If you mean policy holder, then thats the risk you take.
Third party is covering you if you cause an accident etc.

Devastating to driver and/or passengers.

For example, driver crashes without full comp, makes it a lot harder to get medical costs for themself and possibly passengers.

Although id like to think that the passenger could claim off drivers third party policy. But not sure how that works.

So my advise to anyone getting insurance now is to pay foe full comp, last thing you want is to be without cover if you have an accident.

When I bought the Alfa Spider my usual broker quoted nearly £700.
Went Aviva, took out a multi car policy with the family car and got both of them for a bit over £500, the spider being £150 (all my no-claims + limited mileage). Went back to them a week later for breakdown cover on both cars £70+ for both and 1/2 hour later they rang back to apologise they had made a mistake.
"So how much more then?"
"No, sir. You already had breakdown cover on your insurance policy, We'll be refunding £65 per vehicle"

So thats £85 to insure an Alfa drop top, slightly more than a tank of fuel. Sometimes I like being an old git.

Probably never go with that shower again.
Cancelled direct debit by mistake (irrelevant reason) and received a "Default Notice Served under Section 87 of the consumer credit Act 1974" Dated 22 July. In the letter they say "Please call us by 15 July to make payment"

Normal procedure is to send polite letter first then escalate them.

Why should anyone be polite to somebody who owes them money? That is just giving them more time to get deeper into debt.

Adding Arch to my insurance saved me £100! Not sure that would work for Matthew though.

It is interesting that the insurance quote for the cobbled together out of scrap amateur built electric three wheel truck I am building in my basement is less then half my ordinary car quote for the same cover but fewer miles.

It's a bit more complicated than that...

What?

The passenger is always covered by the driver's insurance. The driver is never covered.*

*Unless you've taken out a personal accident extension.

I have just been doing some insurance quotes on a comparison site on some cars in my area on ebay. On one car, a Comp quote just for me on the car would be £1700. If I insured both my parents on it as well, I would be able to insure it for £1000. Thats a saving of £700 just for two people who would probably never drive it.
You might want to read up on fronting.

Do you have points or something? My last car was a Ka (up until a year and a half ago), and I was fully comp at around £200. My Tigra has a bigger engine and is worth more, and my insurance is still fully comp at the same kind of price.

No points on my license, that was the lowest quote I could get, I found that the fact that I had been car free for the last 30 years didn't help me, no checkable history. I'm basically being treated similar to a new driver, thats despite spending 10-15 years driving small commercial vehicles, unfortunately I couldn't contact the companies concerned for them to vouch for me, ones closed down and with the other one I left under a cloud and wouldn't get any help from them.

OK, that explains it . My OH had the same problem. Just had to grit his teeth and wait to build up some NCD.
