Moved job last month and now only work 2.5 miles away. So now i commute daily on the bike and even fold and take shirts/trousers/underwear in to work in a pannier (so i never need to use the car). Really enjoy the 15 mins bike ride compared with a 25 min car journey in a morning.

If the weather is OK, then commuting by bike is a great start, and finish, to the working day.

My commute´s only 20 mins and I wish it was a bit longer.

I got asked today, by a new female colleague, who is in the office opposite..."how far do you ride in?" - "erm anything between 7.5 and 11 miles...." didn't go so far as mentioning the 32 mile days.......to other sites....

Usual comments about being fit...blah...blah....

Said.."well you've got to do something" - stood there like a numpty in my kit........ doh..:blush::blush:...flippin hate chatting to colleagues in my kit..let me go, I need to look human again........(unless it's a cycling colleague), then you are 'safe'.....

Not to bad being in an 'educated' environment, but working at a construction company, the ladies were after hanging about for a look at me in lycra....PS I was 2 stone heavier then.......

Welcome to the nut house.......

I only commute 2.5 miles...most of the time i wish it was a bit further to make it worthwhile. But, you get to work refreshed and not sweaty.

As winter approaches  its easier to cycle in that defrost the windscreen, warm the engine, sit in a cold car, watch the heavy fuel consumption, know the damage thats being done to the engine on short trips...i get as much pleasure from winter riding as i do summer.

Next, you;ll be doing what i do...extend that 2.5 miles to 7, 10, 20 miles just for the fun of it on the way home. I very often do.

I love it. It keeps me fit, sane, and functioning. It gets my brain going in the morning, and flushes work out of my head in the evening. It cuts my commute time by 30 mins. It means too that I can get home if the trains aren't running (I'm multi-modal, and have cycled all the way home on a couple of occasions when the trains have been buggered).

And I get mildly sexually harassed in the office for wearing lycra. What more could a bloke want?

Turning the question around, when faced with a full Twenty Inch wrapped in tight lycra, what more could a lass want?

yeh, i'm wondering if the cold weather which is sure to arrive might dampen my enthusiasm but i really hope not.

I've also ran and even walked it to work (25 mins and 45 mins respectively) and they were great too.

Had a chat with a guy on a vintage MTB (93) - handbuilt Nigel Dean with Pace suspension - very nice - he doesn't bring it out often. Then chatted with a neighbour (on his way home) for the last couple of miles discussing his next bike purchase...... you don't get that driving a car !
