How standardised are freewheel threads?

Wanting to reuse the crazy 5-speed block off the Peugeot mixte when I replace the rusty steel wheels with some alloy ones. Quite apart from the necessary remover, are the actual threads standardised, or must I look for French wheels?

The threads have been standard for quite a while. Have you got an English bb cup or lock ring to check if it's ISO.

French threaded freewheels are rare. Italian threaded ones are a bit more common. An steel-bodied English or ISO freewheel will go onto an alloy Italian hub (with some effort, being careful not to cross-thread, and you can't use an Italian freewheel subsequently) but the other way around is best avoided.

French freewheel threading is a metric pitch and cannot be interchanged with ISO, British or Italian.
