How strong is superglue?

I broke my GPS bar mount today by overtightening it, a very annoying mistake because they cost about £14 for just a few bits of plastic!

I was wondering if superglue would be strong enough to hold the mount together if I was careful not to overtighten it again? It needs to be tight enough not to rotate in use, but I have rubber spacers which should offer enough friction to make that unlikely.

The problem is that the act of tightening the mount is what broke it in the first place, so the stresses on the repair will be in exactly the right direction to break that!

I might just give it a go, with the GPS lanyard tied round the bars in case the mount breaks.

PS I just found the video below on YouTube which depicts an interesting method of strengthening superglue repairs. I'll try it that way and report back!

Depends if you trust a bit of glue to hold a £14 mount with a few hundreds quids worth of kit attached to it , i know i would buy a new mount rather than take the risk of seeing my garmin go under a car wheel.

That's the same idea as RC aircraft modelers use when building aircraft to strengthen joints.

Cyanoacrylate is every RC aircraft modelers friend, but instead of paper they use flexible CARBON sheets glued onto parts to make them ultra strong.

Although at £12.20 it's slightly cheaper than a new bracket, I don't think the saving warrants the repair time TBH.

It's a very old Garmin Etrex that isn't worth much now. I always resented the fact that the GPS was relatively cheap but the mountings were such a rip-off price so I don't want to buy another one. I would rather put the money towards a new and improved device.

I will tie the GPS to the bars for backup, though!

Superglue only seems to stick to rubber and skin.
superglue was designed to stick skin together

apparently.

I've had mixed results with both superglue and epoxy. They'll stick some plastics really well but on others (notably polyethylene) they're rubbish.

The mount will probably be ABS which I think is one of the plastics I've had trouble with before.

Well, superglue is cheap enough to be worth giving a go - I just ordered 5 small tubes from Amazon for £1.24! (I find that larger tubes tend to go off before I use more than a small fraction of the glue.)

Consider using crack, along with the superglue. Supposed to improve the strength of the joint.
Not a fan of superglue, because when I've gone to use it its failed to even stick my fingers together.
