Tour de France has just started.
Commentator was quoting the guy that won the yellow Jersey in 1949 !!!
He said that earned him enough to have running water installed in his house.

They’re still not very big earners compared to footballers, top tennis players, etc

A friend of my Dad's was a pretty good amateur darts player back in the day.

The first big pub competition he won back in the '70s was sponsored by the local butchers.

The prize was 2lb. of sausages, and his mother was delighted as that was next day's dinner sorted.

This year’s world champion will win £1million at Ally Pally.
Darts isn’t a joke sport anymore.

You could buy a lot of sausages with that!

My first flat was, IIRC, £15,000 in 1987 for a spacious and modern place in a niceish part of MK.

My first house, a decent size 3 bed terrace wasn't much more in 1989.

Flip this line of thought and in many ways we're going backwards.
GDs birthday yesterday and among the bits we got her was a microscope. What kid doesn't like a microscope ?
It was brought online, I didn't see it till I opened it...what a load of garbage.

I had one as a kid in the early 70s, alloy construction, proper optics, a good light, it was just brilliant but at the time, pretty standard fare.

GDs one, a piece of plastic rubbish, poor light, poor optics...it all JUST does what it needs to
