I think there are cyclists and there are cyclists.......like drivers and screwdrivers. I think the guy in the video is a "yutz" and does not do himself any justice, there was a reason why he got pulled over. It's an adult playground on the roads which is fraught with danger at the best of time. I wonder if he stopped at the next set of lights when they were red.................

Shockingly bad policing in that video. What he should have done was detain the guy, radio through to his control, got the exact wording of the section of PACE, so that he could shut that smug idiot up and give him the ticket. The fact that he lost it and tried to grab the camera shows us that he wasn't secure in his knowledge of the law and more importantly he lost his cool when he should have remain calm and objective.

I got pulled the other month by a motorbike cop. http://www.cyclechat.net/threads/first-police-pull-a-fair-cop.86471/#post-1552119 I didn't jump a red, but I was technically 'in the wrong' by riding the wrong way down a 1 way shared car/pedestrian road, when the cop apparently saw me riding too fast (he was a fair way away though.) Anyway, I could've argued the toss with him, but I just held up my hand, gave my details and said I'd ease off in the future. I was on my way within 5 mins.....isn't that the right way to deal with the police???

What an absolute knob! Just a pity that the Copper seemed to bottle it when he knew he was being filmed. If he had known his stuff, he could have arrested the jumped up "student of law" for not being able to satisfy him as to his name and address, and kept him arrested until his identity could be verified. With that attitude he will come again, hopefully when he is up against a slightly more street-wise Copper.

YES! Absolutely. It's called "the attitude test" and although it may not be a Home Office approved technique it definitely sorts out the decent folk from the numpties.

Yeah I've seen this video before too. Simple fact is that if he had been stopped by a bobby who knew a little bit more, then he would have had a very different ending to the video. He could have been arrested for refusing to give his name and address combined with the offence of the RLJ (Section 24 PACE or possibly Sec 25 if the video was long enough ago), and if the officer had wanted to he could have even had his camera seized under Section 19 as evidence of the offence to prevent it being altered/deleted.

As it is, I think he comes across as a cockwomble (love it) either way - unfortunately for poor old PC Stout he comes across as a bit 'Tim nice but dim'.

And just in case anyone thinks it never happens, someone at my nick recently got arrested (not by me), charged and REMANDED (kept in custody overnight til morning court) for using their mobile phone whilst driving, simply because they insisted that they knew the law and didn't have to give any details. They later gave them, but told the custody sergeant quite straight forwardly that they wouldn't attend court as they (and I quote) "didn't agree with or follow any statue law, I only follow the Queens law or Gods".

That reminds me of a herbert that I stopped when I was a copper. He had a tail light out, and got shirty when I told him. I then smelt something in his car. Got backup and a dog. Got him for possesion with intent (he had a wad and scales, and 30 small zip seal bags of weed). CID then section 32'd his house, found keys to a lockup - his wife told them where it was sure enough it had a full growing operation there. Eventually he went down and was also smacked with POCA and lost his house.

You can be arrest for that? Does the officer need grounds other than that? Presumably it can't be used as an excuse to arrest someone who had been acting lawfully?
