pen paper and landline for a few weeks
I think you may have missed the point of this threat. The next 2 weeks is a "quiet period", after which the Gameover Zeus attacks will resume, and it's quite possible the attacks will resume before then. So not using any PC for a few weeks will achieve nothing (except for a refreshing break from the technology, of course). The best thing to do is:
  • clear Internet Explorer and Windows' temporary files;
  • ensure Windows, antivirus and firewall software are kept up to date frequently;
  • do backups regularly and ideally with a high frequency;
  • turn your PC off when it's not in use.
There's not much else you can do, really.

Heard a piece sbout this attack on R5 yesterday. If you have not clicked on any links in dodgy e-mails you won't be infected.

agreed - I was thinking for quite a few weeks...there is a window now to do as you say and then be very vigilant, just count ourselves lucky we've had a warning this time
Am thinking of leaving the pc on an old version of Windoze in the hope they will target newer versions only
