We wanted to get double yellow lines painted to prevent drivers from parking and obscuring our view as we emerged from our road - not a chance in Hell.

Conversely, I found the opposite. I wrote to the council (Westminster) requesting double yellow lines to be painted. They wrote back saying OK. A couple of weeks later, notices were posted around the area advising what was going to happen, with a phone number for objections. Some time after that (maybe a couple of months, tops), the lines were painted.

I couldn't believe how straightforward it was.

Update - it took a wee while but the signs appeared today :okay:

2 phonecalls to the local council - one to request the signs and one to follow it up after they didnae phone back when they said they would...followed by a 3 month delay. But they did say "it'll take a few weeks but it will get done"

How do we get road signs de-erected?!
A bit of a bug bare when I see 10's of road signs on a stretch of road which is way overkill.
There are too many on a short stretch that is just laden with signposts. no need.
Before getting clever, I recommend some signs for children playing, school signs etc
but others with signs after signs on a nice country road or lane looks like inner city trash fly tipping to me.
Its like watching TV with information going along the bottom, down each side, along the top then news flash...its too much info and a little bit off putting.

My favourites are the "Sign not in use" signs and "New road layout" signs that stay put for decades.

Where my brother lives the council (or whoever is responsible for the bridge) have just erected a sign that says "yes we know the bridge has been damaged..."
my brother says he can't help thinking the money would have been better spent...

In Derby, we've recently had one of the bridges over the railway on one of the major roads replaced. While they were fannying about getting the replacement organised, they put up a bunch of signs on surrounding roads concerning a 7.5 tonne weight restriction. When the bridge was finally replaced, they sent a bloke round to sort these signs out. Not by unbolting them, but by spraying over the red circle on the sign!

For years I've said jokingly to friends that those roadworks signs which read,'Delays Possible' should read 'Delays Inevitable'. Then, a few years ago, i was driving back from Didcot to the A34 and got jammed up in roadworks. Laughed out loud when I came to a sign that said 'Delays Inevitable' because some joker had vandalised it with paint. Maybe a cheesed-off Didcot local?^_^
