I want to enable the Quick Tabs feature, which I find useful on our home computer, which has XP Home. (This laptop has XP Professional) Have tried clicking Properties on IE in the Start - All programmes route but that doesn't tell me.

Go to 'Help' on the menu bar. Click on it. From the drop-down menu that appears, click on 'About Internet Explorer' then you'll get a dialogue box appear which tells you exactly what version you have of IE

Use Firefox instead. Tabs and any other customisable feature you could ever wish for.

Only 10% market share too, so less attractive to internet nasties.

If you don't want IE8 to be installed automatically once it becomes available (assuming that you have Automatic Updates enabled) Micro$oft has issued a toolkit to block IE8 downloads. Stick the file in your home directory and run from the command line.

+1. IE7 used to crash on me fairly regularly. No issues since I switched to Firefox.

I can't see any advantage to sticking to ie over Firefox. In fact I'm trying out Thunderbird for the mail too, after getting hacked through a security hole in Windows Mail.

More on topic, the tabs bar on Firefox closes when you're not using tabs so that it doesn't take up the space when not in use.
