Summer is the season for burning old carpets, tractor tyres and anything else of the fragrant variety, because everyone is sure to have their windows open and you need to remind them of all that lovely free fresh air.

You do a ride on a warm day and only need cycle shoes, shorts and a short sleeved top, you ride again three day later and need longs, a base layer, a short sleeved top and need to add a long sleeved jersey as well.

As long as I breathe, I attack.
Actually, it depends on how far north/south you are. Go near enough to the poles and it doesn't even get dark/light at all in June! When I was in Scotland a few summers ago, it certainly didn't get fully dark.

As for me telling how it is summer ... It is Yorkshire, the time is 23:27, and it is still 23.0 degrees C outside!

Only it isn't ... The forecasts say that it should be only a chilly 10 degrees tonight and it certainly feels like that. My digital thermometer's external reading seems to have gone on the blink. The internal one seems to be telling the truth.
arm and leg warmers for commute last night , soon need the thermals again.

...you need sunblock and waterproofs on the same day.

...you try to power your phone solely on the solar panels you use when cycle-touring and fail.

...your wet shoes stuffed with newspaper dry in one day instead of three.

Similarly, particularly strong slurry smells waft in from the fields just as we sit down to dinner. I think the timing of spreading is related to when sunset is and the heat makes them pong more, so I guess there's not an easy way to avoid that!
