How's this for restraint?

I was in the poundshop yesterday and as I queued I spotted some boxes of Smarties on the shelf I was next to. I haven't had a box of Smarties for years - probably not since having one for Christmas as a kid. So I bought one. No restraint so far.

But last night I rationed my self to a dozen or so, and the box is sitting on the table right next to me, right now, and I haven't scoffed the lot...

Yet....

Yeah, they have blue in, it's perhaps a touch less vivid than it used to be. According to the cartoony blurb on the box, all the colours come from natural plant extracts.

Oh, I just ate 6 looking at the box....

When I was little, our getting-in-from-school snack before dinner used to be a saucer with a few crisps, a few peanuts, some Smarties (ony a few, never a whole tube) or chocolate buttons, and a piece of cheese. I always made sure I ate the salty stuff first, then the chocolate, becuase then you get the salty-chocolate taste.

A friend of mine says he was told as a child that Smartie tubes always came half full - his Mum decanted half out, gave him the tube, then kept the tube and replaced the half for the next time....

Eat them arch - this forum needs posters through the night

Stuff them in your mouth, suck like fury and then spit them out, nice and clean and white. Suck them up again, and press the shells against the roof of your mouth until they crack and dissolve.

Wash down with a large Creme de Menthe

What about for Ollie (hope I remembered his name), Smarties are definitely something that an aunt should arrive with.... my Mum always used to have those really small boxes (about 8 in them) of them for my children when they were little. She didn't give them out when she would arrive, but later on if they were being good.

My kids know I like the orange ones and will still give them to me now on the rare occasions we have them.

A 51 will do!

None of that either.

Maybe it would be easier to list the contents of my drinks cabinet.

1 bottle Sainsburys vintage cider (got in for a casserole I'm making later in the week)

1 bottle Touraine red wine bought two summers ago in a supermarche in Dieppe that I've never got round to sharing with anyone.

Half a bottle of sloe gin.

A smidgin on Glenmorangie

Some mooseblood vodka from Ikea

Most of a bottle of Harvey's Bristol Cream my Mum was given and doesn't like. I don't really like it much either.

In fact I tend not to drink alone, bar the odd bottle of beer, so all of these bar the cider have been hanging around for a while...

Summerdays, yes, it's Oli, and yes perhaps I should take some. He has a pretty good diet (he loves prawns!), so a few Smarties at Christmas should be ok if I ask his Mum first.
