HTC Desire HD on the way

At the moment I certainly would. As I say, battery life isn't the best (although it's still new and may improve), but apart from that it's great.

Just be aware it is quite big. I like that, some might not.

Android is brilliant, and I am impressed with the HTC Sense version of it. In fact HTC have over the last week updated the software on this phone twice! Some might say that they should have had any bugs fixed before shipping, but two updates in a week shows some commitment!

I also like a larger phone, it's almost essential on a smart phone IMO.

Well, got back from a weekend away and my new Desire HD was waiting for me - all paid for by work (contract and all)

I've been playing with it for the best part of a week now. It's a really impressive phone.

Battery life is a pain though - especially after discovering angry birds

Battery life as magnatom says does not have seemed to caught up with technology.

In need my phone for work but that's about it.

One thing I've noticed is an significant increase in the internet download speed. HSDPA is lightning fast. I also find it very quick when on wireless.

I love surfing the internet on it!

Angry birds Important work stuff loads in seconds rather than the iPhones click to load, wait 10 minutes, find it's crashed and repeat...

The K800i was a great phone, I had mine for about 2 years as when it came to contract renewal there just wasn't anything out there to replace it.

Is the joystick still working, though? Mine was getting very dodgy towards the end of it's life.

Your not the only one. I have ordered a Nokia N8, i looked at the HTC, Blackberry & iphone (yes i'd love to pay £100 on top of my monthly payment...) but decided on the Nokia. You cant go wrong with a Nokia in my eyes.

I think owners of the N97 might disagree with you!

Nokia ARE far from perfect, and I feel the N8 deserved a lot of the negative press it's received. In terms of functionality and smoothness it's nowhere near the heights of Android and iOS. The web browser, for example, is total toss.

BUT ... the battery life is AMAZING compared to regular smart phones. I easily get THREE DAYS out of my N8 doing the same things that had my Desire complaining by the end of they day.

How are you getting on with yours?

I've still got a W800i Still in use by my daughter, says something for the build quality that it has survived both my drunken attention and a teenagers.
Actually it was a K750 but I had the software flashed to the W800. Still a great phone.

Sorry to veer OT a little bit, but anyone found a decent silicone case for these yet? I bought one from Mobile fun but returned it as the quality was appaling.
None of the shops I tried yesterday stocked one as apparently the handset is too new, although they should be available online.

Are we back to talking about the Desire HD now? I've used these (invisishield) on all my smartphones, although I tend to get screen only. They are sold as being the material used to coat the lead edge on a helicopter rotorblade and I've certainly never managed to scratch one. I can just carry my phone in my pocket without worrying about keys etc.

Obviously if you're set on a case rather than just protection for your phone, this is useless.

I'm just worried about dropping it or scratching the camera lens really.

I would also say a better plan is to keep your phone away from keys and being dropped.

These phones are designed to be scratch resistant. While my HTC Desire had 'the works' (£20 rubber case, £15 screen and lens protector - which made the phone bulkier, heavier and less pleasant to the touch) my N8 aint having none of that. Just keeping it in a separate pocket from keys and coins! A colleague of mine took this approach to his HTC Desire and six months on it's still mint.

They're like bikes - you have to keep them immaculate until you get the first scratch - then you can stop worrying about it!

The body on the DHD is aluminium so it can take some knocks - and the plastic covers on the battery/cards would be replaceable if broken. The main thing is the screen - the screen protector should take of that. Could you cut one up for the camera lens too?

I had/have an ipod - and when I got it, I got plastic case, and film covers for the job wheel etc. Once they were all on, it looked really fugly. In the end, I took them all off and live with the odd scratch.

Get a protector for the screen though, I scratched the screen in the first week when I got a company blackberry. With the backlit LCD, it's so obvious all the time.
