Another HTC Desire HD tip.

To stop the device loosing lots of power while you're in bed, you need to turn off wifi, GPS, Bluetooth AND network data (just leaving you with incoming call and SMS).

I found a good, free market app for this: "Dazzle Configurable Switcher" from Moonblink. Took a while to realise that you can only disable mobile data once wifi has been disabled - but works great.

Many thanks both, I shall stop worrying then.

Good tip for the camera lens protector, I do have a spare screen cover I could try that with, thanks

Just turning off 'sync' on HTC's toolbar will deal with most of that.

Didn't realise how long the battery life lasts on these things if you don't actually use them!!! Since I've been using the N8 I haven't charged the HTC Desire in over a week! It's just sitting there, in standby, doing nothing ;)

I tried that at first - but some apps can still use data and if wifi is enabled, it still uses a fair bit of power keeping it connected.

The biggest power hog though - by far - is Angry Birds.

I am about to move from Nokia phones after 15+years with them. One feature I use a lot is timed profiles. This means if in a meeting etc, you can change it to silent or vibrate, but it will automatically go back to the original settings at a specified time.

Anyone tell me if this can be done on an HTC (Desire or Desire Z most likely)?

cheers

Hi,

There are lots of apps in the market that do similar things. I've got one where you can schedule profiles throughout the week - so alerts are turned off at night; ringtones are quieter at work but louder when commuting etc. There are similar ones that can turn off wi-fi at night or use GPS to silence the phone when you enter a certain building etc. So I would expect there to be something like timed profiles. Have a google for the various 'android market' listing sites to see if you can find it.

Timeriffic is quite good. The thing I missed moving from Windows Mobile was that WM would automatically silence the ring tone if your calendar had an appointment marked as busy in it. I've not found anything similar on Android yet but with Timeriffic you can set certain operations to turn on and off at certain time eg my Wifi turns on at 5pm as I expect to be in my house at that time

I've got something called Tasker which does all sorts of automation. I have it set up to automatically go silent when there is a meeting in my work calendar.

On the standard Desire (and perhaps on the HD) there is a standard Android Widget built into the phone called Power Control which provides this power control for each function. I have it permanently installed on one of the home pages. Works a treat.

I finally found a timed profile app that is simple and does what I want. Timed Profiles by Ayman Alsanad. All the others offered hugely complex sets of rules and permutations so that setting it up took ages. This one allows you to say "make silent for x amt of time" then revert to where you left off" in a couple clicks
