I'm looking to put a hub gear into my newly acquired Pedersen frame but am out of touch with the myriad of more modern ones (in the last 20 years). You make sedate progress on a Pedersen, so there'll be no standing on the pedals or stamping through the gears - that is just ungentlemanly.

I do want 5/7/8 speed, 36 holes, 130-135 OLD.

I don't want electronic shifting or hub/roller/disc brakes.

I don't mind secondhand or older hubs.

Any suggestions?

Shimano is probably your best bet SJS Cycles usually has a good range of hubs with all sorts of options in stock so I suggest phoning or emailing them, tell them your dropout type, width between dropouts and brake type. The Shimano hubs I've seen have had a bell-crank change mechanism that fits on the end of the axle so you don't need a lug on the frame for the cable outer.
