Smash the cistern
IT LIVES!

And more importantly it works. On a first tentative couple of rides it shifts pretty well across the whole cassette.

So that's a 9sp Campagnolo Ergopower 2, hubbubed to a 9sp Shimano Sora 3400 short cage mech, with a 52-42-30 Campagnolo triple chainset and an 11-30 Shimano HG50 cassette, giving the full range from 30/30 to 52/11. Anybody got any other rules they want me to break?

The first law of thermodynamics would be a good one. Give that a go

Smash the cistern
After a week or so of running and a few nasty clunk sounds, I've adjusted the limit screws and updated my appraisal from "working" to "working tolerably well as a seven speed" which is all I need it to do for the time being. ^_^
