If you have your qr skewers on as tight as possible does this cause the ball bearings and cones to wear quicker.

I have noticed mine deteriorating quickly after a 1500 miles to the point they are pitted.

So may I am doing wrong by having them as tight as possible?

Your skewers shouldn't affect the tightness of the bearings. The skewer only compresses the fork legs against the spindle, so in theory should make no difference. It might cause a problem if the nuts and lock nuts are loose allowing the skewer to take up any slack and then compress the bearings in the hub, in which case that would put extra pressure on the bearings, as the bearings are incorrectly adjusted in the first place.

You shouldn't have your skewers as tight as possible anyway. Just enough to hold the wheel in is fine. Otherwise you run the risk of damaging the forks, the drop outs, the wheel itself the bearings...
