I am thinking of spending a few days in this area - I used to live there many, many years ago. I will have 4/5 days for riding. So can anyone suggest a better use of my time? I will dedicate a day to re-exploring my old home area and then perhaps
  • ride to Bridlington. Is the cycle path from Brid to Driffield manageable on 23c tyres?
  • ride across the Humber Bridge to ??? All suggestions will be welcomed
  • ride with Cottingham Road Club
  • ride in the S Wolds area W of Hull

I have only done a bit of the cycle path - but the back roads are very quiet, and much more enjoyable IMO. The road into the wolds via Ruston Parva and the like is great. You might want to join the cycle path before you get to the big main road though- I have never been into Brid itself from that way. Loads of good riding in the South Wolds - you could even head North a bit to the Michelin Pub of the Year, The Pipe and Glass, for a pub lunch. It is in lovely surroundings and Michelin starred, but you can get a ploughmans with home made relishes, good cheese, ham,and crusty bread or a steak sandwich with salad and home made chips for about £7. Don't tell everyone though!

I'm from around there, but it would depend on how many miles you wanted to do after the bridge. If you didn't want to add too many miles, the area immdiately between the bridge and the A180 is quite nice just to get lost in the backroads. A bit further east of this around Goxhill it's the same. There's Thornton Abbey there too. All quite flat, and some pleasant villages. South of Barnetby you start to hit the wolds, which is nice in itself, but you might be getting a bit far from base now?

You could head west to Alkborough there's some tearooms and a high ridge along the Trent which gives a good view where the rivers join and across to pancake flat Yorkshire to the west. I think for the highpoint you'd need to dismount and take the footpath a little bit. Not sure on best route there tho, apart frrom avoiding the A1077.

There's always Cleethorpes front, but then Grimsby's kind of in the way...
