I have walked over, done a 10K race over, and its on one of my favourite 100mile cycle routes, the Humber Bridge, so I watched the Channel 5 program on it last night, and what an interesting program it was, the road platform is shaped like a plane wing so that when its windy the air pressure under the bridge is lower than above so the bridge becomes more stable.

Its on Channel 5 catch up if you want to watch, other bridges also have their own program.

I've walked, cycled and driven that bridge for years, it's a great structure and it takes you from a barren heathen wilderness to Lincolnshire.

The in laws had a caravan just north of Withernsea in the 1970/80s so I took a few pictures during its construction stage, the caravan was also a good ride out from Pontefract, but via Beverley avoiding the Hull traffic.

Like you we have both used it a lot, I used to work in Hull 3 days a week travelling from just outside of Lincoln. I have also rode over it on bike and motorbike, towed the caravan over in windy days, walked it and done the 10k. It still scares me to look up at the towers as we go over it, looking down is fine.

It is because of the bridge that we got to end up in Lincolnshire, I wanted to see it so we drove up from Twickenham stopped for a cuppa in Lincoln and brought a house, as you do. We then carried on up and over it on the same day.

About 1993, I did a job for the organiser and when he sent me the cheque he included an invite to run in it. My wife who to that date had never run at all let alone 10 said she would give it a go, well we had 6 weeks to turn her into someone who could do 10 without stopping she did a 54.07

Never been much of a runner myself unless I had a bike on my shoulder but my best 5 mile was a 34 minute back in the dark ages. Now you would measure the time with a calender, arthritus is not good for running with.
