Hurt a child today

Picture the scene - lovely sunny afternoon - large trampoline - three kids - boy aged four, girl nine and .. er... man aged 49. Bouncing around, wrestling, lolling about and generally having a great old time.

Until 16 stone man rolls over on leg of 3 stone girl. Twisted her knee pretty badly, boy did she wail.

I feel like such a cad. (was it Attenburgh who brought us footage of elephant seals rolling over on their offspring?)

Luckily I was able to buy her forgiveness with a fiver...

Teaching her 'Compensation Culture' early I see!

I'm sure she will be fine, I have 'taken out' a six year old boy before (on a slide no less), and boy do you feel incredibly foolish (and dirty), but they soon get over it, and hey, accidents will always happen.

See it as being a learning experience - the best ones are where you never do it again.

I once bounced hard causing GTi junior to bounce and hit his face on the edge cushion of a trampoline, giving him a nosebleed. The owners of the playpark were shitting themselves in case I decided to sue them! They asked me to sign a disclaimer agreeing not to take action and made all kinds of fuss about it. Ridiculous.

Here for rides.
I once signalled advantage in a rugby game and laid out an 11 year old. Still, she was playing at nine so probably deserved it.

I was down the park last week with three of the kids playing that game where you have to kick the ball against the wall in turn from wherever it lands. Lose a life if you miss the wall etc.

My 8 year old daughter took her turn kicking the ball and then my 14 year old lad (who's taller than me) ran in to take his turn and hit the ball HARD at the wall but before the wall could intervene the ball smashed my daughter full in the face taking her clean off her feet.

I can still hear the screaming as clear as anything and it makes my stomach turn  .

Accidentally hurting my son is one of the things I most dread. Having children changes most things for the better IME, but there are some unwelcome changes, and this is one of them.
